Until March 1, 2019 schools are required to comply with the new regulation of the Ministry of National Education (paragraph 13 (3) of the draft). The ordinance stipulates that breaks between lessons cannot be shorter than 10 minutes, every student should have access to the locker and drinking water. What do parents say?

The new Ministry of Health and Safety regulation of the Ministry of National Education assumes that by 1 March 2019, every student should have access to a place where they can store books, notebooks and school supplies. It does not necessarily have to be a cabinet, it can be a box or a shelf.

Theoretically, it's a great idea, given the importance of the average school backpack. The problem is (what teachers point out) that schools often lack space for additional lockers. Parents, in turn, emphasize that school lockers are a false convenience, taking into account the number of homework assignments and the time each child must devote to study at home. In practice, most things - books and notebooks - have to be carried around in their backpacks every day.

Long breaks at school

The idea of ​​introducing longer breaks at school assumes the possibility of a quiet lunch or physiological needs. Theoretically, only praise the planned changes.

Unfortunately, in this case it is not pink and theory has little to do with practice. A huge number of students and overcrowded schools are the reason for work for two changes at many facilities. Some children have to come to school for 6 hours, others for 14. Extending the break to 10 minutes will make children stay in noisy and crowded schools at least half an hour longer. The introduction of 40-minute lunch breaks, which is also planned, will in turn extend this time by another hour.

Most parents do not want to take long breaks from school because their children will have to stay outside the house for longer. They point out that not all children eat at school. Teachers, in turn, emphasize that for the youngest children, extending all breaks to 10 minutes is a shot in the knee. This decision will make the little ones even more agitated and irritable. It will be harder for them to focus on the lessons.

Extended breaks in practice force you to postpone extracurricular activities to a later hour. For many children, they prevent the development of passion outside of school.

The new regulation is to impose on school heads the obligation to create such lesson plans that the "demanding" lessons are at the beginning and the "easier" ones at the end. In practice, mathematics is to be the first, and art at the end of the day at school. What do the teachers say? First of all, they emphasize that children have to think throughout the day, and the division into "harder" and "easier" lessons is controversial, and secondly, it is difficult to plan work in such a way to meet this requirement. As a consequence, everything indicates that it will be a dead recipe.

Access to drinking water

Schools that until now did not provide children with access to drinking water will now have such an obligation. In this way, the Ministry of National Education wants to take the next step on the path of changing the eating habits of young Poles. The idea is not controversial. It is considered the most necessary for the introduction.
