Pregnancy after the deadline

A definite group of women who walked with their tummy for nine months agree that the last days and sometimes weeks will be longer. And if they could decide, they would shorten the final stage of waiting for the baby. However, the problem with looking for signs of delivery may be even greater. Sometimes the patience of being exposed is even more tested. When the delivery does not take place, despite the set date, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Established delivery day: approximate date

The approximate day of delivery is not the day when all babies are born. On the day set by the doctor, he is born around 5% of all babies. Therefore, this term should be treated as approximate.

It is not the doctor or even the expectant mother who decides about the day of delivery. The impulse to start labor is sent from the child. Scientists still do not know how a newborn baby initiates its birth day.

How long does the pregnancy last?

Only theoretically, pregnancy lasts 280 days from the first day of the last menstrual period, 266 days after fertilization, i.e. 40 weeks. This calculation applies to the average monthly cycle, which lasts 28 days and in which ovulation occurs in the middle of the cycle.

Not all women have such regular cycles. For this reason, doctors take the pregnancy as a norm, which lasts from 38 to 42 weeks. This monthly time frame clearly shows that the date set by the doctor should be treated as an indication.

After the USG examination, we can get another (after the date of the menstrual period) delivery date. It is believed that the most appropriate is the one determined at the first visit, assessing the age of pregnancy. In this case, however, there is no certainty that the solution will take place within a specific period.

Transferred pregnancy

Today, there is a tendency to end pregnancy quickly after pharmacology. However, in the opinion of the largest experts and authorities, this is a big mistake.

The induction of delivery should be treated as a last resort, and pregnancy after the deadline should not be a cause for concern. After the date set by the doctor, more frequent visits to a specialist and observation become necessary, but only to assess the condition of the placenta. As long as the placenta "copes with pregnancy management" (the placenta is efficient, the amount of amniotic fluid is normal and the baby is doing well), there is no reason to worry and it is worth waiting a day or several days to give nature a chance.

When a child is not born ...

Days after due date require a woman greater vigilance. It is advisable to visit a doctor or a clinic once every two to three days and perform CTG. Doctors also sensitize that the expectant mother pays special attention to the movements of the fetus and any changes in this area (a sudden decrease or increase in frequency) to signal a specialist taking care of pregnancy.
Pregnancy must end, if the solution does not occur by itself, and the baby is large, he is getting tighter, his condition worsens, the toddler excreted meconium (which is naturally removed immediately after delivery).

The standard is issuing a referral to the hospital to induce labor, when the pregnancy does not end naturally for two weeks from the doctor's calculated date of delivery.
